The company's own materials describe the product as built around long-term relationship continuity rather than one-off roleplay sessions.
Customization and companion experience
Users write a custom backstory and stated preferences for each Nomi, or let a personality develop through conversation. Multiple, independently customized Nomis can be maintained on one account, each with a distinct identity, and combined in shared group chats.
Image system and video generation
Nomi's image generation uses named "anchors" (reference images tied to a specific rendering style) to keep a companion's appearance consistent across separate generations; each Nomi starts with a few stock anchors covering different styles, and a user can create custom anchors from their own album images with an adjustable fidelity setting that trades strict likeness for more creative variation. Turning a still image into video works from a single source frame plus a short motion prompt describing the desired action (e.g. "turns and waves"); generation takes several minutes and produces a roughly five-second clip that closely follows the source image rather than introducing new elements.
Mind Map: visual memory
Alongside its tiered short, medium, and long-term memory (plus a persistent "Identity Core" anchoring a companion's personality across sessions) Nomi builds a per-conversation Mind Map: an automatically generated graph connecting the people, places, topics, and goals that have come up over the relationship. It's viewable as an interactive node graph or a searchable, directly editable table, letting a user correct misunderstandings or add facts by hand rather than only shaping memory indirectly through conversation. A Mind Map takes roughly 500 or more messages to first take shape, and each 1-on-1 or group chat forms its own separate, private map. The company states memory entries are visible and editable, letting a user review or delete specific things a Nomi has retained.
API and integrations
Nomi publishes a REST API at api.nomi.ai that lets a developer list the Nomis on an account and send messages to a specific companion programmatically, receiving the reply as JSON: aimed at connecting a Nomi to external tools or interfaces beyond the main app rather than building new companions from scratch. As of its announcement, Nomi noted this was a newly released API without pre-built third-party integrations yet live.
Content policy
Nomi's terms of service require users to be 18 or older, stating flatly that under-18 users cannot use the platform under any circumstances, and describe age verification at registration with the option to add further checks. Separately, Nomi's own marketing describes the platform as built on being "unfiltered and uncensored," positioning it against companion apps with stricter content moderation, and it publishes a U.S.C. § 2257 statement asserting that all characters, voices, and visual content are computer-generated rather than depicting real people, which it cites as the basis for the service falling outside U.S. federal record-keeping rules that apply to services featuring real performers.
Nomi's published terms don't itemize what sexual content is or isn't permitted; the "unfiltered" positioning is a company description of its general approach, not a detailed content-policy document.
Access model and pricing
Nomi uses a simpler structure than some competitors: a free tier with daily limits on messages, one companion, and basic photo sharing, and a single paid subscription tier (billed monthly, quarterly, or yearly) that removes those limits and unlocks voice calls, a daily image-generation allowance, video generation, and support for multiple companions, rather than splitting features across several paid tiers.
How this differs from Kindroid and Candy AI
Nomi's Mind Map is a distinct approach to making memory visible and editable, compared to Kindroid's cascaded-memory system (which scales by subscription add-on) or Candy AI's more loosely described adaptive memory. Nomi's single all-inclusive subscription tier also contrasts with Candy AI's separate token economy for media generation and Kindroid's stackable paid add-ons.
